Brayton CycleLifetimeAttitude & TurnLifetimeGPWS / TAWSLifetimeTCASLifetimeWhat to try
- Press Play and follow one full 720 degree cycle: induction, compression, power and exhaust.
- Watch the valves, and see when both are open around TDC at the end of exhaust.
- Move the ignition slider to see why the spark is timed before TDC.
- Switch the lower graph to the valve timing ring.
Exam point
Four strokes, two crankshaft revolutions, one power stroke per cylinder per cycle. Ignition happens before TDC and the exhaust valve opens before BDC. Efficiency rises with compression ratio, but a high ratio and over-advanced ignition cause detonation.
