What to try
- Pick APP, VOR, MAP and PLN and notice what is drawn and where the aircraft sits.
- Toggle CTR in MAP mode: the full compass appears and the range ahead is halved.
- Turn on the options one at a time and note which ones disappear in VOR and APP.
- Do the five challenges, then the quiz which shows the display and asks which mode it is.
Exam point
MAP for en-route, MAP with CTR for a full circle around you, PLN to check the route against the CDU, APP for the ILS, VOR for a radial. On the 737 the active route is magenta. Amber traffic is a TA. Real EFIS panels have more options such as POS and TERR, so check your FCOM.
